Afternoon At The Park

Day 21: A Beautiful Mess 30 Day Self Portrait Challenge

Title: Cookie Monster

My friend Gina invited me to the park for an afternoon play date for the kids. She’s a busy RN, and mother of an 8 year old boy and we hardly get to see each other. We also met up with our other friend Shelly and her son who is the same age as the twins. I needed a brief respite from puppy duty so I got the twins ready and drove down to the park.

“We are at the grassy area by the rocks,” she texted when I called to find out where to meet. It was a hot and sunny day but I found Gina on a mat in a shady clearing at Lili’uokalani Gardens. The boys were already climbing up on the rocks with agile and leaping off landing on both their hands and feet. Shelly was standing close by watching her son who was darting from rock to rock. We all made our greetings and relaxed on a blue picnic mat on the grass.

I also got to meet Gina’s friend Nicole. She arrived pushing her one year old daughter in a stroller. A CNA and new Hiloan, she made the trek down to the park on foot from her house. Her daughter had the most beautiful blue gray eyes and Nicole had brought a bag of homemade cookies to share: Oatmeal Chocolate/Peanut Butter Chip.
It was a cookie that, to me, didn’t require a glass of milk to go with it. It wasn’t crunchy nor chewy but a whole lot of melt-in-your mouth goodness. “My cookies come out different every time,” she said. So thinking that I might not taste a cookie like this ever again, I had a second…and then a third! Maybe a fourth-can’t remember lol.

It was a fabulous, relaxing, and brief get-together. We caught up on a bunch of parenting woes and such and talked about exercising, jobs, puppies, weather-whatever came up at the moment.

What a beautiful day it was!
